Karmapa bronze statuette - unique piece

This copper statue from Bhutan dates from the early 20th century. Karmapa or "black caps" are an important branch of the Kagyu order, the oral tradition. This karmapa is seated in dhyana assana, the lotus position. Her hands are joined in dhyana mudra, the gesture of meditation. His throne is adorned with a double row of lotus petals. He wears the traditional headdress, with on the front of it a double dorje. The wear of the gilding at the height of the knees shows us that this piece was very venerated.
