Thangka
A thangka also spelled tangka, thanka or tanka is a painting on fabric of rectangular shape that unfolds. According to the original Tibetan tradition, these are creations from a visionary art. The majority of thangka represent mandalas and deities. They have a sacred character and spiritual significance especially in Tibetan Buddhism. Fabrics can be made from linen, cotton, and sometimes silk. This sublime thangka dating from the 19th century is made of silk and cotton and comes from the Himalayan ranges. It represents a tree of life and all its symbolism. Its vegetable paint and its fabric are of high quality and very well preserved.
